It’s one of the most impressive classes in Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame history.

A world champion curler, a Canadian champion boxer, two national championship basketball teams and two longtime coaches who have produced generations of talent on the court and the field will be honoured during Induction Night 2025 presented by Support4Sport on Saturday, November 8 at the Lighthouse Arts Centre in Halifax.

Here are this year’s inductees:

Athletes/teams

Colleen Jones, curling, Halifax: One of the greatest players to pick up a broom, Jones is a six-time national and two-time world women’s champion. She has also captured two Canadian mixed titles and a national and world senior women’s crown. Jones is a member of Canada’s Sport Hall of Fame and was appointed to the Order of Canada in 2022. In 2017, Jones placed second in a vote of the top 15 athletes in Nova Scotia sports history.

Ralph Hollett, boxing, Halifax (posthumously): A three-time Canadian middleweight champion, Hollett amassed a career record of 19-10-1, including a 13-fight unbeaten streak. His 1980 title win over Fernand Marcotte sold out the Halifax Metro Centre (now Scotiabank Centre), as did a second-round knockout over Chris Clarke that year. Hollett died in 2012 at age 59.

1979 Saint Mary’s Huskies Men’s Basketball Team: The Huskies compiled a 32-2 record en route to the national title, led by first-team all-Canadian and national championship tournament MVP Mickey Fox. Point guard Kevin Wood earned Atlantic conference MVP and first-team all-Canadian honours, forward Percy Davis Jr. was named a first-team Atlantic conference and national team all-star, and forwards Ross Quackenbush and Tom Kappos played for Canada’s national team.

1982 Red Fox Senior Women’s Basketball Team: The Red Fox are the only women’s basketball team in the history of the province to win a national title, going undefeated in five games in the tournament in Fredericton, defeating Alberta in the semifinal and British Columbia in the final. Carol Rosenthal and Jill Tasker were named tournament all-stars. The team was founded by the late Jimmy Naugler, who served as assistant coach, with Allan Waye as head coach.

Builders

Bev Greenlaw, basketball, Grand Pre: For more than half a century, Greenlaw coached at every level in the province, leading the 1987 Canada Games men’s team to gold. He has coached the University of King’s College men’s program (1979-87), Dalhousie University’s men’s program (1987-94) and Acadia University’s women’s program (2008-15). He led the Nova Scotia under-17 girls team to a silver medal at nationals in 2012.

Mike MacKay, basketball/football, Truro: MacKay is among the most successful coaches the province has produced. While at Cobequid Educational Centre, he led the girls basketball team to 11 provincial finals, winning seven, and the boys football team to 12 finals and eight titles. He was head coach of the Canada Games women’s basketball team in 1989, 1993 and 1997, and has been the manager of high performance for the national women’s basketball team since 2013. He received the Frank Baldwin Award in 2020 for his contribution to basketball in Nova Scotia.

Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame CEO and CBC broadcaster Bruce Rainnie will host the ceremony, which will be broadcast live on Eastlink Community TV at 7 p.m. You can also purchase tickets for the event by visiting www.nsshf.com/induction-night.
